OA Earth Day Grant Winners - We'd like to congratulate the winners of our Earth Day Small Grants program. The OA Committee awarded funding to the following four projects: Pogradec: Environmental Poster Competition Thank you to all who applied! We look forward to hearing about these and other Earth Day activities! ***If any club leaders have photographs or details of Earth Day activities (whether funded or not) that they would like to share, please pass them along to Laura at secretary@outdoorambassadors.org by May 13th. OA Summer Camp Participation - Currently the OA committee is trying to finalize details for our summer camp. It is planned for the week of June 20th in Erseke. If you know you will have students interested, please contact Kyle at president@outdoorambassadors.org. More details and student applications to come! Activity Ideas & Resources 2011 is the International Year of Forests - This year across Albania and the world people are raising awareness about the state of our forests. Incorporate this theme into your OA club's meeting/activity by taking a hike to a forested area nearby or starting a discussion on deforestation and forest health. Visit http://www.un.org/en/events/iyof2011/ to find out more about the UN's part in this international year of awareness and get ideas for events and projects. Club Update
Number of people in your club: We have 30 new members (since March 20th 2011) and 30 old members (since July 2009, these members are High School Seniors and they will have to leave the club in a few months when they go to college). Club mission or "theme": "Raise the awareness, love the environment, live healthy" Brief summary of a recent activity and/or meeting: I would like to give you a brief summary of the Ceremony we had for the old members and PCV's on April 1st. There were 50 participants (including James and Erwin). It was a ceremony dedicated to the old members, as well as the younger ones.
At the beginning, we showed a video I had prepared with pictures from all the activities and projects we have organized and been part of since June 2009. We used a video projector and audio devices for the music of the video.
Then we started dancing! After that, we had two “small surprises” for James (and Jennifer) and Erwin. We had two presents and a video for them as well. They had the chance to speak in front of everyone and share with us their emotions and feelings before leaving. We also had a presentation for Erwin, who helped some of us with the Model UN last year.
At the end of the ceremony, some of the guys showed a surprise they had prepared for me too. It was really amazing and unexpected video. As it can be seen, it was a ceremony and a party as well, full of surprises, speeches and music. Everyone enjoyed it.
