News & Events

OA Summer Camp - Currently the OA committee is finalizing details for our summer camp. It is planned for June 20th - 25th in Erseke. Student applications and a description in Shqip and English are available by email (contact secretary@outdoorambassadors.org). Also available is a Youth Counselor application, which is meant for students of at least 18 years of age who have been very active in their home OA group (and know English well!). There will only be around 4-5 Youth Counselors in total.

***All applications are due by May 27th by email to campcoordinator@outdoorambassadors.org .

G14 Camp Coordinator Needed for the OA Shadow Committee - If any PCVs from Group 14 are interested in being the next OA Camp Coordinator, please contact Libby Horwitz (campcoordinator@outdoorambassadors.orgas soon as possible! We are hoping to have this position filled by early June so that the new Camp Coordinator can participate in the camp in Erseka!

Save Your Scrap Paper - For PCVs and club members coming to the camp in June, save and collect your scrap paper and bring it with you to camp! We are planning on a few activities that require scraps (like papermaking). For those of you not headed to camp, you can still save your paper and send it with one of the volunteers who is.

Activity Ideas & Resources

Adopt a Place - Is there a certain area of town that has a particular problem with garbage? Is there a small park in town that needs some extra care? The "Adopt a Place" idea that is popular with highways and areas of cities in the US could be adapted to fit your OA club here in Albania. Think about proposing the idea to your club! You could make a sign to post at the site, take ten minutes out of your regular meeting time to check on the site or even talk to the Bashkia about your effort and get some support from the local parks or waste management department.

Stabilization Wedges Game
 - This game, created by the Carbon Mitigation Initiative at Princeton University, attempts to get students thinking about creative ways to approach reducing carbon emissions. Plus, it helps them learn about different kinds of energy production. Recommended more for older students because the material is a bit scientific/complex. Downloadable lesson plans and game boards are athttp://cmi.princeton.edu/wedges/

Create a Website for your Group! - The OA website has space to host a page highlighting the activities of your OA group. Check out the examples of the Kukes and Fier clubs online atwww.outdoorambassadors.org . Get in touch with Laura Hammett at secretary@outdoorambassadors.org if you or students in your club are interested in setting up one of your own!

[Startup] Club Update

AN Club Name:
Outdoor Ambassadors Shijak

The OA Shijak group has just begun! We had our first meeting with five students attending, and expect more to come in the future. We look forward to the future of our club filled with community projects, music filled excursions, and other activities in our small town. Look for photos and more activity updates in the future!

~ Thank you to Libby Horwitz for this submission! ~
